Automation and Notifications
Configure supervised automation.
The Automation Centre is where owners and admins turn on automation switches such as shift swap and cancellation handling, threshold warnings, and operational alerts, with human review kept in place.
Overview
The Automation Centre is where owners and admins enable and control automation, such as shift swap and cancellation handling, threshold warning emails, and operational alerts.
Automation is supervised decision support. It must not be left to run unattended, and every automated action should be reviewed by a responsible person.
Before you begin
- Make sure rostering, notifications, and the related workflows are set up first.
- Decide who is responsible for supervising each automation.
- Keep manual workflows available as a fallback.
Recommended setup order
- Open the Automation Centre as an owner or admin.
- Review the available automation switches and capacity controls.
- Enable one automation, such as shift swap or cancellation handling, at a time.
- Set threshold warnings so you are alerted before limits are reached.
- Review operational alerts and act on them with human judgement.
- Monitor outcomes and pause any automation that needs review.
Key fields and settings
Automation switch
An owner/admin control that enables a specific automated workflow.
Threshold warning
An alert email sent as usage approaches a limit.
Operational alerts
Automated alerts that flag operational signals for human review.
Supervised automation
Automation that prepares and alerts while a responsible person reviews and decides.
Best practice
- Turn automation on gradually and watch the results.
- Assign a clear owner to supervise each automation.
- Treat operational alerts as prompts for review, not automatic decisions.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Enabling several automations at once without supervision.
- Leaving automation running unattended.
- Treating an automated alert or action as a final decision.
